What to do in Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the largest city (and perhaps only) in Nepal. Located in a valley of the same name, was declared in 1979 as World Heritage by UNESCO. The entire city is considered an outdoor museum, with hundreds of medieval temples, palaces, shrines and statues along the streets. Kathmandu has been the focus of attraction for travellers since it first opened its borders in 1950. Since then, many of them go in search of enlightenment.

It is advisable to visit Kathmandu at the time of the celebration of Indra Jatra, in late August or early September. The festival is honoring the dead, as well as pay tribute to the divine figures of Dagini and Indra. According to legend, Indra, the god of rain was captured in the Kathmandu Valley after stealing a flower from her mother, Dagini. After he was released when Dagini revealed his face to the captors. After his release, vowed to spread Dagini dew on the crops and take to the skies to those who died a year earlier.
