Japanese culture the kokeshi

When I was in high school, a friend of mine gave me a lovely doll carved in wood. I liked a lot and even today I keep, has great sentimental value. What I did not imagine is that this nice wrist kept the story of a faraway land. Some time ago I discovered. This mysterious doll is part of Japanese folklore, and today, it’s really popular with tourists. Sure you’ll want one too.

His name is carved Kokeshi and mainly in cherry and maple. It shows great simplicity, art and beauty, as only the objects are marked with the customs of a people. It has two distinct parts, the head and body, which is cylindrical. In them, the magic touch is given by painting. Can estimate it pretty flower designs resembling kimonos. Each of these dolls, made around with designs with beautiful colors and tender gestures, is unique, which makes them more special.

Its origin dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867) in the Tohoku region in northern Japan.
